Wetland AnimalsWetlands are home to many amphibians, such as turtles (like the snapping turtle in the top image) because of the abundance of shallow water and dry land. An amphibian that is very important to the success of the biome is the frog. Adult frogs feed on insects keeping insect populations in check, while tadpoles do the same for algae. Frogs also help measure the health of the wetland, because their skin absorbs nutrients, as well as toxins, so if the frogs go extinct in one community, it probably means there is a toxin in the water. Herons are birds (see bottom picture) that are very common in wetlands. They also eat the abundant insects, as well as small fish.
